GEFCO Russia Expands Expertise in the Field of Container Transportation of Grain Products

15 May 2020

GEFCO Russia continues increasing its expertise in the field of food transportation. In the framework of cooperation with one of the largest players in this industry, a unique solution was offered for the transportation of grain products (chickpeas) in containers along sea routes.

GEFCO Russia offers a full range of logistics solutions and services for international and Russian companies from various sectors of industry. In 2019, the company enhanced its position in the market and strengthened the expertise in the development of efficient supply chains involving rail transport. The partnership with the producer and processor of grains, pulses and oilseeds is a new stage of the development of experience in the field of food transportation.

Before the start of cooperation with GEFCO Russia, packaged products were delivered to the port in covered wagons, while non-packaged ones were delivered by road in grain carriers. At the port, grains were loaded into 20-foot containers. Implementing the project, GEFCO Russia specialists developed a new logistics solution enabling to load 20-foot containers on their own access roads. As part of the partnership, among other things GEFCO Russia will carry out, test shipments of four 20 feet containers by sea to Egypt, as well as freight forwarding and payment of the railway tariff. In the future, the load is planned to reach up to 40 containers per month, and the number of countries for export will be increased to 7.

Valeria Seledkova, General Director GEFCO Russia, comments: “The food transportation involves the development and the use of specifically adapted solutions and technologies. Our partnership is yet another confirmation that developments proposed by us are specialized ones and they are capable of meeting  individual needs of our customers in a wide range of industries.”

The continuous increase in expertise in various fields is the key to our successful development

The new project will allow the producing company to simplify interaction with key contractors. In addition, it is planned to achieve greater safety of the freight without repacking and to maintain the export level of up to 25 tons in the container. Another important strategic advantage for the client will be a single window available for interaction with Russian Railways, the Volga Territorial Center for Corporate Transport Services, the Federal Freight Company (FFC), the port and the sea line. FFC provides fitting platforms (for the transportation of large containers) on a railway leg. The sea leg will be at the base of the Sea Land line.
