GEFCO Russia Implemented a Large-scale Project for the Transportation of Oversized Cargo for an Agro-industrial Company

03 December 2020

GEFCO Russia completed a multimodal project for the transportation of agro-industrial equipment from China to the Kursk region. Working together with Chinese partners, the GEFCO Russia’s specialists ensured the delivery of 1.5 thousand tons of oversized cargo in 8 months in the mode of internal customs transit. The preparatory period took 2 months.

Amid the restrictions introduced in connection with the COVID-19, GEFCO Russia controlled the sea transportation of the cargo from Shanghai to the port of Constanta (Romania), the transportation of the barge to Rostov-on-Don, the transshipment of the cargo and road delivery to the site of the agro-industrial company in the Kursk region. A plant for processing oilseeds is being built there, promising to be the largest in Europe.

The most difficult stage was the road transportation of the oversized cargo (its width 6.5 m, its maximum weight 92 tons). Since its dimensions exceeded the traffic standards allowed for standard highways, GEFCO Russia specialists worked out and tested in advance the route along bypass roads, bypassing federal highways and major highways. They also received permission to block roads at some points along the route of the cargo, as its width exceeded the width of the roadbed.

GEFCO Russia control tower was involved to ensure the quick and efficient interaction among the project stakeholders and coordination of all links in the transport chain. It enabled to avoid serious disruptions and protractions under the delivery of the first lot of cargo and organization of the next two ones that are already being delivered by sea to Constanta port.

“This project is an example of the well-coordinated work of GEFCO Russia team with a wide range of international partners from China, Turkey and Baltic countries,” comments Valeria Seledkova, CEO of GEFCO Russia. “Despite the serious restrictions introduced in connection with the COVID-19, we were able to ensure that the cargo was delivered to the client's site safely and on time. The implementation of this project opens up an opportunity of the further logistics partnership with one of the leading enterprises of the agricultural-industrial complex in Russia, which makes us a great honor.
