Large-size tires for SUEK

Delivery of large-size tires from the USA to Russia.

Client

SUEK is one of the world’s leading coal and energy companies. SUEK Group includes coal mining and refining enterprises, as well as generating, logistics and service assets in Siberia, the Urals, the Russian Far East, and ports in western and southern Russia.

Project Objective

Delivery of large-size tires from the USA to Russia.

GEFCO Russia’s solution

GEFCO Russia’s project team organized the door-to-door service, including:

  • loading tires into an Open Top container
  • delivery by truck to the port of origin in the United States
  • organization of sea freight to St. Petersburg
  • customs clearance, including “Honest Mark” stickers
  • cargo insurance
  • transferring from containers to gondola cars
  • delivery to the recipient’s warehouse

The peculiarity of this project was that according to Russian law, tires are in the category of goods that require an “Honest Mark” sticker to be imported. Each unit of goods must bear a unique code from the Russian digital labeling system. Without this code, the goods cannot be customs cleared in Russia. The difficulty was that the tire supplier refused to label its products for Russian buyers. To solve this problem, GEFCO Russia specialists forwarded the shipment to a special customs terminal, labeled it and then delivered it to another customs terminal for clearance.

Benefits for the Client

The main advantage of working with GEFCO Russia on this project was the combination of the competencies of a global logistics provider (experience in coordinating international projects and different types of transportation) with the ability to develop a customized solution with additional services, such as taking into account features of Russian legislation like the “Honest Mark” stickers.
